WHAT IS AN EMERGENCY

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOUR PET IS IN DANGER?

If you notice something is wrong with your little one, here are some important things to note that will help describe to your veterinarian what is happening:

  • The symptom

  • The length of time the pet experienced the symptom

  • What happened immediately before and after the symptom was shown

  • Any recent (1 week) changes that have occurred egs. changes in diet, behaviour

If your veterinarian needs more details, be prepared to answer. This is why it is important to know what is normal for any pet and specifically your pet. They should be regularly observed so that you can quickly identify when something goes wrong.

Here are some life threatening symptoms & situations:

  • Unconsciousness

  • Seizures

  • Fractures/inability to move

  • Car accident

  • Heat Stress/Heatstroke

  • Eye issues

  • Nonstop coughing, choking or difficulty breathing

  • Vomiting or diarrhea (more than 2 episodes in 24 hours)

  • Blood from the nose, mouth rectum or in urine

  • Suspected or confirmed exposure to toxic substances

  • Not eating or drinking for 24 hours or more

  • Obvious pain or distress

Any concern is worth contacting your veterinarian and if you are unsure of its severity, he/she will advise you if the situation warrants an immediate visit.
